Bulgarian Singing Workshop

Dessislava (Dessi) Stefanova will lead an open, friendly Bulgarian singing workshop, plunging participants into the rich living tradition of Bulgarian singing, which provides insights into the vocal technique that gives power to the voice, and voice to the heart. Dessi’s workshops are relaxed and friendly – singers of all levels are very welcome, whether or not you sing in a choir or read music.

An experienced international performer while still at school, Dessi went on to become a professional singer and assistant conductor with the renowned Philip Koutev Bulgarian National Folk Ensemble. She settled in London in 2000, founded the London Bulgarian Choir, and quickly established a reputation as a teacher and conductor of Bulgarian singing. She leads international voice workshops and large choral productions, and directs the Swiss Bulgarian Choir and children’s choir Londonche. Her voice can be heard lending drama to key moments in films such as Troy, The Brothers Grimm, The Virgin Queen, Borat and HALO 4 and 5. In 2023, Dessi was named a Bulgarian Ambassador of Culture by Bulgarian National Radio in recognition of her work in raising Bulgaria’s cultural profile worldwide. She continues to study voice and traditional music.
